On our way back from the end of the Lamar Valley, we stumbled upon a small family of River Otters. These little guys were a blast to watch, jumping and swimming all over each other, checking us out, and making the strangest sounds. This was a really unique photo opportunity. Being in Yellowstone, you are constantly on the lookout for the big mammals; wolves, bears, bison, elk, etc. River otters just aren't on the top of the list to see, however, these guys were some of the most fun fauna to shoot on the trip. We passed by the area many times after the first experience with these guys, but we never saw them again.
The drive back down to West Yellowstone was long and we were exhausted from the overnight drive, however we did get to have some good opportunities with a Great Blue Heron and an Osprey
